pin me

I'll be honest with you. I first jumped on the Pinterest train when it was a brand new and very unheard of thing, but I thought it wouldn't get off the ground. And now it's practically become the ground that the Interweb stands on. At least the parts with good design sense and phenomenal taste.

I adore Pinterest and the ease of its dainty little "Pin It" button on my browser's Bookmarks Toolbar. It's become like an external segment of my brain, acting as a personal catalog for photography inspiration, recipes, event and styling ideas, crafts, reminders, and all around beautiful things that would normally remain lost forever in my over-clogged Google Reader.

And it's added new vocabulary to our everyday verbiage, which would otherwise sound fairly stupid. For example, here's a pin from each of my boards:

Max Wanger
Wisteria Wallpaper by Jocelyn Warner
Nepal
homemade piano
Doug Keyes: double exposure (Statue of Liberty, New York
Helvetica
Crafty craft time
crystal bullet necklace: $310
Soviet Owl
backless sequined black dress
<3:
lace back wedding gown
watermelon and strawberry vodka fresh berry mojitos
whole grain pumpkin pancakes
Shawarma lamb w/ couscous salad
Veg:
pearl barley & puy lentil salad w/ roasted heirloom baby tomatoes, green bans & baby radish
ombre pink rainbow layer cake
really hope they're besties in real life
Mila
simple wreath

I have 19 boards and counting right now (too many?). How about you? Let's see 'em!

bringing creativity to the closet

And suddenly my blog takes a swift dive into the shallow end...
So I'm a day late. But I'm still doing it.
Kendi has thrown together another oh-so-brilliant 30 for 30 Challenge, wherein you essentially pick out 30 items from your already-existing closet (shoes, shirts, skirts, pants, sweaters, jackets) and "remix" them into 30 new-ish outfits without making a single clothing purchase for 30 days. That's a lot of 30. And in five more years I'll BE 30. Gag.
Anyhow, I figured my currently-unemployed self could only benefit from trying it out. I really only rotate through three pairs of jeans anyway. (Kind of kidding, kind of not.)
Annnnnd I have to post pictures of myself every day for the next month.
Aren't you just so excited?!
Ha.
And I'm only feeling about 99% embarrassed about it. Which is about the same level of shame I felt the time we tried to break into a Katy Perry concert at my old high school. Just to give you a tangible comparison.
Sweater: BDG; Shirt: ecote/thrifted; Pants: siwy/Buffalo Exchange; Shoes: Bamboo Shoes
hello
And there you have it. Day 2 of 30 for 30. I realize I skipped over Day 1, but that's because I was wearing my Official Unemployment Outfit...aka Lululemon leggings and my new Patagonia pullover. Which is so comfortable, I might devote an entire post to it sometime in the future.
Props to my sister Emme for playing photog. Through the next 30 days we'll also be teaching her how to use my manual camera correctly. See? Everybody benefits!

In truth, the penny-pinching has been rough since I'm new to Seattle and oh my goodness have you seen the nightlife and array of fine dining potential up here?! It puts Santa Barbara to shame. And has a way later bedtime. And since almost anything social involves food and going out, I'm having a hard time saying no to some (if not most) of it.
I went to The Hi-Life in Ballard with a new friend last night for happy hour...and had an incredible flatbread pizza made with butternut squash, goat cheese, pancetta and Tutto Calabria peppers.
So when it comes to the budget...I'm having a hard time cutting out food/drinks/coffee because, hellooooo, I need a reason to leave the house once in a while...
So clothes will have to go.
I'll talk about my 30 picks tomorrow. We did group critiques in my CNF writing class tonight, and it all but sucked the life out of me.

fashion comic relief

I'm back in Santa Barbara after a whopping 10 days in Seattle. If you didn't catch my last post, my maternal grandmother passed away suddenly last Friday, and my sister and I flew back for the funeral, which was yesterday.
For being something utterly universal, death is really hard.
And then to top it off we had the reception after the burial at my parents' house, wherein I ended up serving chai and strange Russian finger foods to 70+ pseudo-relatives (Pickled herring? Gag me.).
While it was good to be with everyone, I think those of us at the Jacks' house all need a little comic relief from the tension and grief.
And what's more comical than me trying to experiment with fashion? And then Photoshopping it until you start to feel like you're having an out of body experience/just took a bunch of expired LSD?

Disclaimer: I'm not one to use drugs. Really. Unless you count Aleve/Advil once a month.
Just think of it as The Daybook on acid. (Absolutely no offense, Syd.) And as soon as I'm back up in Seattle, I'm going to start the 30 for 30 Challenge. So things can only get better from here...right?

holiday parties

So excited to attend several Christmas parties tonight...apparently December 4th is the night to throw a holiday party. I'm throwing some glitter on my nails, some sequins on my bod, and these favorites on my feet...
Has anyone else thrown together some fun holiday colors...or found any flawless holiday dresses?
I know Bridge has.

searching for: moccasins

Did a little online window shopping in honor of Black Friday...since I haven't left our little 10x10 cabin yet this morning. My sister calls them moccos. My friend calls them mocs. I call them "the next thing I'm going to purchase for my feet." Anyone have any that were under $50 that they absolutely love?
We are headed out to a teensy thrift store in the "heart" of this sleepy little mountain town. My favorite kind of shopping. And I might have had apple pie for breakfast.
29 days til CHRISTMAS, people! Get excited.
