miss you already, Grandma!

Heaven scored a leading lady this week, when my grandmother Vera Kuschnir passed away suddenly Friday afternoon. She was a writer, a translator, a brilliant woman, and so well-loved by those around her. She made me proud of my Russian heritage, and who I was in Christ.
I think the hardest part for me through it all is watching my mom miss her mom. She has been carrying huge burdens for the rest of us, and handling her own grief with grace and dignity.
On the other hand though, I am beyond excited for my Grandma Vera...she is free of hardship, pain, sorrow and all the other junk we have to deal with down here. My dad said it well: "My "Other Mother" went to Heaven on Friday. I bet she's smiling pretty big today!"
So Grandma, thank you for paving the way for me. Thank you for being interested in my life when you were here and encouraging me in the simplest of ways. I am so excited for you to finally get true rest. Love you always. Miss you already. Hope to make you proud.

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

"Heaven scored a leading lady this week" …so very well put Maddie and, so very true. She was really quite something indeed.

I always enjoyed the way she would sigh and roll her eyes when I'd toss a low-end pun her way. (Holding up my bottle of aloe vera lotion), I might greet her with the following:
"ALOE VERA."
"Oi!" …Oi! (shaking her head) …Oi!, was all she'd say. (I'm pretty sure, when translated, that means—'I haven't heard anything so stupid in years.) As usual, she was correct.

That's sooo hard. Just keep breathing. I'm sorry, Mad. Goodness knows I'd give anything for another day with any of mine. : (

beautifully written maddie. how you put your feelings into this post represents such a true love and respect for your grandmother. it's quite a blessing to have had her in your lives for this long, mine passed away when i was younger and i wish i could have experienced her goodness as an adult. totally understand about your mom missing her mom, this was the hardest thing for me too. she is surrounded by the angels now and your mom and you have an extra divinity keeping close watch. many blessing lovely! ♥

I'm so sorry about your loss Madeline. My grandma passed away in November and eventhough you know she's going to a good place, it's still never easy. She was a beautiful woman. Watch after your grandfather and make sure he knows how much you and your family love him.
