paradise lost

This was Vernazza exactly one year ago when I visited. Remember this ridiculous post?
It's on the coastline of the Ligurian Sea and is one of five small Italian villages that make up Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I fell in love with this little town instantly and swore up and down
that I'd one day return, whether to visit or to stay.

This is Vernazza today:

You can read more about the terrible flooding and mudslides that occurred this week here...but a sweet woman we met last year who lives in Vernazza said it will take over six months to clean and repair the damage. She is safe though.
Monterosso al mare, the northernmost village, has all but been swallowed up.
The mayor of Monterosso, Angelo Betto, said it "no longer exists."

So sad my heart.

monday mediums

...mediums as in the materials or form used by an artist.
Keira Rathbone just stole my heart and jammed it through a typewriter.
Nevermind that last sentence...just loooooook at what she does!

Check out this link for a French video of Keira type-painting the Eiffel Tower. No biggie. And also, rumor has it she did Jim Morrison's grave as well. I mean, who wouldn't.

back & forth

From Los Angeles...
...to Seattle.
Round two in two weeks.
Jet setting is my new fav.
Not.

And as an added bonus this week, my sister pulled together a little video of our first trip up to Seattle from Santa Barbara...road trip style. Don't worry—it's only about a minute, as opposed to the 20 hours we actually spent in my car. I'm not promising any professional videography here—we filmed it on my sister's phone, balanced on the dashboard on top of an empty Naked Juice bottle. Profesh.
But the song we set it to is worth the listen:
