the USA had a birthday...

...which unquestionably required a birthday cake, which cleeeaaarrrllly Allie and I were born to create...

...we had to cut the red food coloring bottle to get out every last drop...

...how cute is she?!
Idea first seen here.
VOILA!
My pride and joy.
I'm tempted to lie and say it was a piece of cake (ha!), but it was more like one of those spatial reasoning questions on the standardized IQ tests.
No matter though—we accomplished our goal, and proudly took it to our Fourth of July festivities a.k.a. hipster neighborhood block party.
Also, I think I listened to the following song 15 times:

My sister may permanently un-follow me for saying this, but country music is more "American" than most of the other makeshift genres floating around these days.
Made me so so so homesick for days like this!

I'm seriously so proud of us. Even if I did freak out a couple times during the baking process.

this cake is unbelievable! and so is this song :-). I must say, I heard this, along with "honeybee" just as many times on the 4th...must be a classic.

Oh yum!! I love that you girls baked a cake for July 4th!! That's a great tradition - I should start doing that (and also to keep my cake baking skills up each year ;). Your cake turned out so beautiful (and I'm sure delicious too!). :)
